An enterprise-grade Logistics Management System (LMS) designed to optimize and streamline complex supply chain and transportation operations. Features include order management, warehouse integration, freight forwarding, route optimization, real-time tracking, and customs documentation. The platform provides end-to-end visibility across the entire logistics network, automates critical processes, and supports data-driven decision-making, ensuring efficient, cost-effective, and compliant movement of goods for global enterprises.
Business Problem
Global enterprises struggled with fragmented logistics processes, inefficient route planning, lack of real-time visibility into shipments, and challenges in managing complex customs and compliance requirements. This led to high transportation costs, delayed deliveries, and customer dissatisfaction.
Solution
Developed a robust LMS using Laravel, integrating with mapping APIs for route optimization and IoT devices for real-time tracking. Implemented modules for order fulfillment, freight management, dynamic route planning, and customs documentation. Utilized Laravel Horizon for processing high-volume tracking data and Spatie Permission for granular access control.
Architecture
Micro-service oriented architecture with Order Fulfillment, Freight Management, Route Optimization (Google Maps API), Real-time Tracking, and Customs & Compliance. Employs Redis for caching frequently accessed route data and shipment statuses. Uses queued jobs for generating shipping labels, customs declarations, and processing tracking updates. WebSockets provide real-time updates to customers and logistics managers.
Challenges
Optimizing complex delivery routes with multiple constraints (time windows, vehicle capacity, traffic) in real-time, integrating with diverse carrier APIs and IoT tracking devices, managing global customs regulations and documentation, ensuring data consistency across disparate systems, and providing scalable performance for millions of shipments.
Performance Optimizations
Implemented Redis for caching optimal routes and real-time vehicle locations to improve dispatch efficiency, optimized geographical queries for route planning and geofencing, utilized Laravel Horizon for scalable processing of tracking data and freight calculations, and employed client-side rendering with Vue.js for interactive route maps and dashboards.
